A love story in Lofoten Islands, Norway
The Lofoten Islands have a way of holding you, that quiet magic between mountain and sea, where time seems to slow.
When Sol first shared her story with me, she told me that her grandparents were from Lofoten. This was more than a location for her; it was a return home.
Two years after marrying, she and Petter realised they’d never had the chance to capture their love story the way they’d dreamed, honest, wild, and full of life. So, they packed their wedding clothes and met us beneath the Arctic sunrise for an unforgettable adventure.

Sunrise paddle-boarding in the Arctic Circle
Paddle-boarding at Ramberg beach
After a night of wild winds, the morning arrived in complete stillness. The fjords mirrored the first light of day, the surface of the water smooth and golden. At Ramberg Beach, the air was sharp and cool, the kind that wakes every sense.
Sol and Petter carried their paddle-boards down to the shoreline and slipped quietly into the Arctic sea — calm, steady, completely in sync. You could tell they were at home in the cold; it didn’t faze them for a second.
As the sun climbed higher, the light turned warm against the mountains. They drifted across the fjord like a small part of something vast and ancient — wild, free, and deeply human.

Painting in the mountains
How to infuse your day with intention
In the afternoon, we met up again to go hiking into the mountains. We chose a patch of wild grass overlooking the fjords to unpack a small picnic, and to do some painting.
I love encouraging couples to create an experience focused on who they are and what they love doing so that they have meaningful photographs at the end. Sol and Petter chose to incorporate their love of art into their day. There was something sacred in the simplicity of it all. No timelines. No rules. Just the sound of watercolour against paper and the soft hum of wind through the peaks.

Sunset vow renewal in Lofoten Islands mountains
As the day turned to gold, they slipped into their wedding outfits, the same ones they wore two years ago, though this time surrounded by the magic of the mountains.
They exchanged vows as the light stretched low across the peaks, personal words they’d written for each other, full of gratitude, adventure, and quiet joy. The air was still; not a breath of wind. Just the soft sound of their voices carrying through the valley.
The moment was cinematic, the kind of scene that doesn’t need direction. The light wrapped around them, painting everything in gold, and for a few minutes, time stood still.

The golden light of Norway
After the ceremony we used the last of the golden light to capture portraits in the mountains. When the sun finally slipped behind the peaks, we began the hike back down, still laughing and talking about life, swapping stories from Australia and Norway.
That’s one of my favourite parts of this work: how it brings strangers together, even for a few hours, to share pieces of life with each other.
That’s the magic of eloping in places like the Lofoten Islands, the landscapes ask nothing of you but presence. The weather shifts by the hour, the light moves like water across the fjords, and the best moments always happen between the plans.

Why the Lofoten Islands are made for lovers of wild places
Lofoten isn’t just a destination; it’s an experience. With its soaring peaks, glassy waters, and endless light, it’s a place for couples who crave meaning over spectacle, who find beauty in raw landscapes and quiet moments.
For Sol and Petter, this vow renewal wasn’t a performance. It was a reflection of who they are, adventurous, soulful, endlessly connected.
If you’re dreaming of an intimate celebration that feels true to you, whether that’s sunrise paddleboarding beneath the Arctic sky or exchanging vows on a mountain ridge as the sun spills over the sea — the Lofoten Islands are waiting.

A love story told through light and landscape
Every time I photograph in Lofoten, I’m reminded that the landscape here mirrors love itself, unpredictable, wild, but deeply grounding. There’s a rhythm to it, a pull between stillness and movement, light and shadow that feels almost alive.
And that’s what I want my couples to feel: not staged, not posed, but present, fully immersed in the story we’re telling together.
