Nestled at the foothills of the Great Dividing Range of Victoria is the charming, picturesque town of Daylesford. Surrounded by the Hepburn Regional Park and affectionately known for its mineral springs, Daylesford offers some incredible accommodation options for the romantic wanderers seeking that extra something special. With restored miners’ cottages, to beautifully decorated homes that are straight from a poet’s imagination, Daylesford is the heart of country charm. Whether you’re looking for the perfect stay for your wedding day, elopement or vow renewal (or even just a romantic getaway!) I’ve got you covered. 

Having had the privilege of not only working but also travelling to Daylesford many times, here is a list of some of our favourite romantic stays in the area. 

1. Lakeleigh

Lakeleigh is a beautiful country-style home tucked away within lush green trees with a garden that offers blooming beauty all-year round from fiery, golden leaves in the autumn, to bright daffodils and tulips in the spring. With direct access to the foreshore of Lake Daylesford, Lakeleigh has sweeping views of the water from every room including both bedrooms which offer balcony views where you can enjoy a beautiful sunset as it sets over the lake. This incredible accommodation oozes a provincial country charm and feels so light and airy with expansive windows featured throughout the house. Whether you’re looking for a place to spend your first night as a married couple or to celebrate your marriage with a vowel renewal, this lakeside gem is not one to miss! 

2. Illoura

Just a short drive out of Daylesford, Illoura is nestled amidst the heart of Hepburn Springs. A stone’s throw away from the Lavandula Lavender Farm, the picturesque weatherboard cottage of Illoura sits surrounded by expansive countryside and tall, ancient trees. Illoura is the perfect hidden retreat to snuggle up together and roast marshmallows by the fire, or to spend your days exploring the numerous walking tracks through the Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve. Grab your towels and make your way down to the Hepburn Bathhouse which resides only a 200m stroll from the cottage. If you’re seeking somewhere to slow down and embrace the beautiful surrounding nature, Illoura should definitely be added to your list. 

3. Poet’s Lodge 

Now, I know I’ve mentioned this accommodation before in some of my previous blogs, however, it’s too good not to note it again! Poet’s Lodge comprises of three separate accommodations (The Main House, Jack’s Cottage & The Garden Loft) which you can individually book or book all three if you require the additional space. Every space of this accommodation has been carefully thought out and beautifully curated to create a charming and inspirational atmosphere. From expansive bookshelves to roaring fires and private courtyards, Poet’s Lodge is the perfect destination if you’re looking for somewhere to host your intimate celebration, or to rest your weary head after a day full of adventure. 4. Albion Cottage

Albion Cottage is a beautifully restored miner’s cottage that resides in the heart of Daylesford. With a perfect mix of traditional features and modern amenities, Albion Cottage is mere metres from the main street of Daylesford. Spend your mornings on the front verandah taking in the sunrise with a cup of coffee or nestle up together and watch the stars from the oasis of your own private garden. Being fully fenced, Albion Cottage is also pet friendly – so your furry family members can come too. This accommodation is a bright and beautiful space with the perfect extra touches to make it feel like home. 

Whilst I’ve barely scratched the surface of romantic accommodation in the Daylesford area, these are definitely some that you should keep in mind!
