A private catamaran, snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, palm trees, stunning sunsets, picnics, and more… Monique and Liam’s elopement in Port Douglas was one of the most adventurous and memorable celebrations we’ve ever witnessed! Here’s a peek into their incredible journey.

Day 1: Snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef

Embarking on a Private Catamaran Elopement in Port Douglas Australia

Monique and Liam kicked off their elopement experience with a stunning private catamaran tour with Sailaway Port Douglas, an amazing eco-tourism operator on the Great Barrier Reef. Having visited Port Douglas multiple times, it was one of their favourite spots, but they still hadn’t checked off the bucket list item of snorkelling on the famous reef. When we suggested adding some adventure to their day, they were all in for a memorable experience!

From the start, Sailaway was fantastic to work with. They tailored the experience to ensure M & L had the day of their dreams. The boat ride took about an hour from Port Douglas to the Low Isles, where they enjoyed a delicious lunch and soaked in the stunning scenery.

The Snorkelling Adventure

Once we arrived at the Low Isles, the real excitement began… along with a few nerves! The guide saw a shark as we were about to get into the water, but don’t worry… reef sharks are harmless! Stepping down from the boat into the ocean, we all jumped into the water, instantly surrounded by coral, colourful fish, and even a giant clam!

Low Isles Exploration

Enjoying the Low Isles in Privacy: A Perfect Elopement Setting

After about an hour of snorkelling, we hopped onto a glass-bottom boat to explore the Low Isles further. The incredible team at Sailaway talked about the coral reefs and marine life visible through the glass of the boat as we made our way to shore.

Being part of the afternoon tour meant we had the island completely to ourselves, adding to the intimacy and excitement of the experience. To our delight, we spotted a shark swimming in the shallows and even a turtle, creating unforgettable memories.

Romantic Sunset Catamaran Elopement

To top off the incredible day, we got the most breathtaking sunset on the way back to Port Douglas. It was the perfect ending to a day filled with adventure and love.

Day 2: The Ceremony Day

Getting Ready at Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Port Douglas

Monique and Liam began their special day at Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Port Douglas, where they had booked a beautiful room with a balcony that opened right onto the water.

Liam was the first to get ready, while Monique watched and offered help, sharing sweet moments and laughter as he slipped into his tailored suit.

After Liam finished getting dressed, he stepped out to wait in the foyer, allowing Monique to get ready without him seeing her outfit. Even with just one hotel room, it’s totally possible to create that special first look moment!

An Emotional First Look on 4 Mile Beach Port Douglas

After getting dressed and writing her vows, Monique made her way to the beach just outside their accommodation for their first look. First looks are always our favourite part of the day. The build-up and anticipation of seeing your loved one dressed makes it all feel incredibly real.

An intimate ceremony at Little Cove Port Douglas

Booking Your Ceremony Location in Port Douglas

For their ceremony, Monique and Liam chose Little Cove, a beautiful location that they easily booked online for just $110. This allowed them exclusive use of the area for two hours, ensuring their vows were exchanged in complete privacy. If you’re eloping in Port Douglas, remember that you only need a permit if you’re getting married at Little Cove or Rex Smeal Park; otherwise, you’re good to go without one for under 50 guests.

You can apply for a permit HERE.

A Romantic Beach Picnic Celebration

Following their ceremony, we headed to the other end of Four Mile Beach, where The Event Tent had organised a gorgeous and delicious picnic setup in a secluded part of the beach. After taking some photos at the beach, we left Monique and Liam to enjoy their picnic, allowing them to reminisce about their incredible two-day experience!
